In fact, most doctors only get about 3 hours of training on sleep science in medical school, total.

Approximately 1 in 8 people suffer from insomnia at any given time and that number is increasing, not decreasing. The National Institutes of Health estimates that some 70 million Americans suffer from some form of sleep disorder. If warm milk or sleeping pills were the answer, we would find less, not more, insomniacs.

 

If The Pills Won't Work, Why Would The Well Educated Doctors Prescribe The Sleeping Pills?

I bet you 99 out of 100 doctors will prescribe you sleeping pills if you tell them you have problem sleeping.

The main reason why doctors prescribe sleeping pills is because they simply don't want to deal with the patient's sleeping problems, as most doctors only receive about 3 hour of training on sleeping problems, prescribing pills seems like a very easy solution. Patients often become psychologically dependant on the drugs and end up taking them for years; enduring the side effects which make their lives more miserable than BEFORE they had sleeping problems.

Another reason that doctors prescribe pills for insomnia is due to pressure from drug companies. Drug companies send in representatives to give away free samples. They can afford to make them free because they know that once you find some relief, you will be hooked. You will have to continue to take the pills or once again suffer from insomnia.

Besides, it's sad but true that drug companies are big business.

Sleeping pills are HUGE business. If you don't believe me, then ask your doctor for a sample. I guarantee that with the introduction of Lunesta, you can now get Lunesta samples AND Ambien samples at most any doctor's office. Prior to the release of Lunesta, you couldn't find many Ambien samples, but the war for the winning pill is waging and drug reps all over the country are the warriors.

 

But I Could Get A Full 8 Hours Sleep When I Take The Sleeping Pills...

Are you sure all you want is 8 hours of sleeping pills induced 'sleep'?

Studies show that sleeping pills drastically decrease the amount of time slept in stage 4 (Deep Sleep). You may sleep for 8 hours, but you will wake up tired, unrested, with a headache, and aching muscles. These effects are common for insomniacs who regularly take sleeping pills.

Did you feel groggy? legarthic, disoriented and tired in the morning?

It's not true that sleeping pills will give you a restful sleep, or make you function better the next day. Sleeping pills work by decreasing the activity to the brain, lowering your brain waves and forcing you into stage 2 sleep, this forces the natural sleep response.

Studies also show that most sleeping pills reduce wakeness time for insomniacs to an average of 20 minutes, and produce an average of 8 hours of sleep. Let me explain:

Just what are brain waves?

Well, to make it simple, your mind operates on 4 major brainwaves, when you measure brainwaves, you can see just how much activity is going on in all the different parts of your brain which can be measured in a unit called the "Hertz." (Hz)

What it really means is, how fast is your brain working?

(Imagine the set of four brainwaves like the gears in a car.)

Here are the four brainwaves:

Beta Brainwaves (15-38 Hz)
- Active Mind

Your mind is in Beta brainwaves when you're fully awake, and conscious. Probably right now as you're reading this...

In this brain-state your mind is fully active. Thoughts easily flow from one thing to another, and have the ability to go on forever, like an endless raging waterfall that's impossible to stop.

When you're experiencing insomnia, and you can't get your mind to stop racing, this is the brain-state you're in...

Alpha Brainwaves (8-12 Hz)
- Day Dreaming, Falling Asleep

Your mind is in Alpha brainwaves most often when you close your eyes, and your body begins to relax. Your conscious mind begins to turn off and your subconscious mind kicks in.

Whenever you "daydream", you're in this brainwave stage.

In order to get to sleep, your mind MUST shift from BETA to ALPHA brainwaves.

Theta Brainwaves (3 - 8 Hz)
- Light sleep or extreme relaxation

Theta and Delta brainwaves happen when you're fully asleep. Sleep science calls this brainwave stage the "deep sleep" stage. In the deep sleep stage, your immune system kicks in, and your body begins to re-energize itself.

When you lack "deep sleep", you will often wake up de-energized, drained, with a headache, or with the constant need to "get more sleep" during the day...

Delta Brainwaves (0.2 - 3 Hz)
- Deep Sleep

The Delta brainwave stage is the second part of actual sleep. A lot of the same things happen in the Delta brainwave stage. Some experts say that this is when the mind does most of its body healing, learning, and filing all the things it's learned during the day.

What does all this mean to you?

For now, all you need to remember is that for you to fall asleep, your mind needs to move into the Alpha brainwave stage.

In other words, your mind has to shut up, and turn off! This happens "automatically" for most people. Insomnia, however, stops this from happening. Here's why:

Sound familiar? I know where you're coming from, because my nights used to be just as much of a nightmare, until I learned the secret I'm about to give to you.

It comes down to this:

How Can Something So "Natural" Be 'Disturbed'?

A lot of people ask me:

"If this "natural sleep response" is so "natural", how can someone just stop having it when they lay down at night out of nowhere? Why do I have this "problem" in the first place?"

The main reason is: the natural sleep response is a mental "anchor" that you've built up from the time you were a child. You learned that "bed = sleep"

An anchor is an instantaneous, conditioned, subconscious response you have to certain events.

For instance, from the time you were young your parents may have tucked you in at night, read you bedtime stories. Naturally, you link up in your mind that when it gets dark, when its the end of the day, it's time to sleep.

Your mind links up that when you lay in bed, it's time to turn off, and head into those sleepy alpha brainwaves.

However, at some point in your life, you may have had a stressful day, or a stressful week, and you don't sleep for a day, or a few days.

Or maybe you have constant stress and your sleep is off and on, like the weather.

Maybe someone in your family died, or you were having financial difficulties, and you couldn't sleep.

This is what most sleep experts call "primary insomnia". Every once in a while you have it, it's natural, not sleeping when you're stressed is a normal part of life.

Normally, at the end of the stressful time in your life, you would just begin to start sleeping normally again.

This is what would happen to any normal person, however, we don't live in a normal world.

As you may have noticed, the average person has far more stress than a 100 years ago!

This is why the natural sleep response begins to wear off. Your mind begins to link up that...

There's also another reason why Insomnia continues to "grow" and why each passing night is more torture than the other.

Insomnia Becomes "Automatic"...

So why does the "natural sleep response" stop happening for some people? It's simple:

As you continue having "primary insomnia" for a couple days, maybe even a week... At one point, your mind starts thinking "This isn't right, I can't get to sleep... what's wrong with me?"

"Do I have a problem?"

"When will I finally get to sleep? Is the same thing going to happen tomorrow night?"

"Is this Insomnia? How did I get it?"

"Aaaaahhh! I just want to get to sleep! Stop Thinking!"

"Why won't my mind just SHUT OFF?"

Over the past 20 years, many scientists who've studied the mind know it works in predictable ways. And one thing that always happens is...

"What you focus on with your mind, expands!"

You're no longer focusing on whatever thoughts or problems caused your primary insomnia in the first place... your focus now is the fact that you have a "sleep problem!"

Can you see how this continues and grows your insomnia? In fact, pretty soon, your insomnia becomes automatic...

Yes, your mind now links that the bed no longer means a restful and relaxing deep slumber it means:

The moment you get into bed, instead of feeling your body relax and your mind drift into the day-dreamy state of Alpha brain waves that would escort your body to sleep.

Very soon, you're so tired of of not sleeping, that stress begins to build up in many other areas of your life. Your finances begin to crumble, your health suffers, your intimate partner finds you less exciting...

While the reason for the beginning of insomnia is different with every person, the mechanics that escalate it are usually always the same as you just learned it!

The answer is simple, you reverse the process!

Think about it this way:

When the brain is presented with a rhythmic stimulus, such as a drum beat for example, the rhythm is reproduced in the brain in the form of these electrical impulses. If the rhythm becomes fast and consistent enough, it can start to resemble the natural internal rhythms of the brain, called brainwaves. When this happens, the brain responds by synchronizing its own electric cycles to the same rhythm. This is commonly called the Frequency Following Response (or FFR):

 

FFR can be useful because brainwaves are very much related to mental state. For example, a 4 Hz brainwave is associated with sleep, so a 4 Hz sound pattern would help reproduce the sleep state in your brain. The same concept can be applied to nearly all mental states, including concentration, creativity and many others. It can even act as a gateway to exotic or extraordinary experiences, such as deep meditation etc.

If you listen closely, you will hear small, rapid pulses of sound. As the session progresses, the frequency rate of these pulses is changed slowly, thereby changing your brainwave patterns and guiding your mind to various useful mental states.

Binaural beats are the most recognized form of brainwave entrainment. With binaural beats, a slightly different tone is presented into each ear. The tones then combine in the brain to form a pulse or beat.

The pulse heard by the listener is actually the difference between the two tones. For example, if the left ear is given a tone at 30 hertz and the right ear is given a tone of 20 hertz, then the listener will hear a beat of 10 hertz. And the brain will entrain to that rhythm.

Looking at the binaural beat pattern it is clear that the wave is shallow. The entrainment is harder to detect and leaves only a minor electrical imprint on the brain.

It's like the difference between riding in a boat on choppy water compared to riding in a boat through eight-foot waves!

No, I didn't wet the bed ;-)

Rather, to my surprise I woke up one day at roughly 6 am in the morning after only about 5 hours of sleep.

"Before i read the Powerful sleep Ebook, i was a terrible sleeper. I suffered from insomnia probably 3 times a week. Often it would take 3 hours or more for me to fall asleep and then i might wake up during the night and have trouble falling asleep again. I was rarely able to wake up on time and i felt like garbage every morning. I was frequently late for work or school as the case would be. This sad state of affairs persisted from at least highschool, into university and then the workforce. Before turning in desperation to Powerful Sleep, i had suffered these sleeping problems for probably 9-10 years.

I found Powerful Sleep just by searching the internet in the hope of finding some good sleep advice. At first i didn't buy the ebook out of a certain conviction that i would get screwed by an internet shyster. My wife was also convinced i would get scammed and did her best to dissuade me. In the end i figured the book was cheap enough that it didn't really matter, so i bought it.

What struck me about the book first of all was that it was quite short and was lacking the usual filler material one expects to have to wade through. Secondly, there was nothing in it that struck me as being complicated, difficult, or improbable. Essentially, the book takes a lot of simple stuff which most people probably know about sleep, adds some stuff most people probably don't know, and gives you the plan and inspiration to make some minor changes in your life to allow you to take control of your sleep patterns and, consequently the way you feel in your every day life.

Along with sleeping poorly prior to reading the ebook and implementing what it said, i also suffered horribly from daytime drowsiness. I would fall asleep at work, in school, on the bus, driving my car (one minor accident, many near misses) - anytime i would sit down for 5 minutes i would be fighting to stay awake. It was awful.

All that has changed dramatically since i read the ebook and took its message to heart. Since then, i have had insomnia one time that i can think of. That is one time in the last 5-6 months or so. I can't tell you what a relief it has been to be able to go to bed and actually fall asleep within 5 or 10 minutes instead of 2 or 3 hours. I am able to get up in the mornings with little or no difficulty probably 90% of the time. That last 10% occurs almost exclusively when i've engaged in one of the Powerful Sleep 'no-no's.'

Not only can i get up easily and have energy in the morning, the overpowering urge to sleep during the day has almost entirely disappeared. That feeling of walking through my days in a demented haze has disappeared.

It is a rare day now that i feel the need for an afternoon nap. My wife, after watching me like a hawk has grudgingly admitted that my sleep has completely changed for the better.

I don't know whether the ebook will work for you or has worked for anyone else - i can only speak to my own experience. If i had known what an amazing blessing this little book would be to my life when i first bought it, i would have paid 10 times more than i did and counted it a bargain.
